NLP interventions

Neuro-linguistic Programming (NLP) is a psychological approach that focuses on communication, personal development, and therapy to link neurological and behavioral processes to an individual’s experience. Thus, neurolinguistic programming connects thoughts, language, and behavioral patterns learned through experience with specific outcomes. NLP is guided by an analysis of the techniques of successful individuals by which they achieve their goals and uses them to help others who want to improve their lives. Experience is considered a source of lessons and a tool for improvement, regardless of whether a particular situation from the past was positive or negative. In neuro-linguistic programming, experience is one in a series of tools for change for the better.

NLP is built on many methods, but most of them are based on the same axioms. A good example is: „People have all the resources they need to succeed and to achieve their desired outcomes.“ It is clear that NLP practitioners believe that an individual has all the potential in itself, just need to activate it. The role of the practitioner is to recognize patterns of behavior and where they come from and to apply the ideal method to change them for the better.

One of the basic NLP axioms is: “If something fails, try a different approach or change your approach until you get the results you want.” The main idea is that you can’t wait for change to happen while doing everything as before. You need to do something, take an active position, and NLP practitioners are here to help you with that.

What is an NLP intervention?

NLP intervention involves a number of dynamic approach methods. For NLP intervention you need a practitioner as a person, and the principle is similar to the classic coaching approach because an NLP practitioner guides you through these techniques and helps you achieve your goal. This is exactly my job as a licensed NLP practitioner, master, and coach, according to NLP founder Richard Bandler, practicing my knowledge and putting maximum effort into helping my clients for the last 20 years.

Some of the most famous interventions:

DISSOCIATION, as the name suggests, serves to move an individual away from negative emotions and view the experience from a different perspective. Instead of being paralyzed by an unexpected situation, you can step away from everything and deal with the situation rationally, so you can calm down faster and move on.

REFRAMING is a technique in which, by changing your view of an event, you change the meaning it has for you. This can change your behavior and make it much easier to deal with a certain situation.

ANCHORING helps us connect the experience (sound, image, smell) with our feelings. With this method, we retrospectively increase our awareness of the environment in a particular situation and it is possible to seemingly change the experience and thus overcome trauma, which in turn allows us to build a better future.

RAPPORT means building a connection and helps you learn how to make good contact with another person. With the help of this skill, you can adapt to anyone and the lead in the conversation, and direct them as you see fit.

SWISH technique refers to reprogramming the mind so that one stream of thoughts leads to desired behavior instead of unwanted. This can correct bad habits and reactions and establish new paths that result in better patterns. It also helps finding „triggers“ for a particular problem.

Neuro-linguistic programming in therapy

Since each and every one of us has our own particular perception of the world, the point of the NLP practitioner-client collaboration is that the practitioner recognizes the client’s characteristic perception and guides them to achieve the agreed goal. In addition, by drawing attention to the unconscious part of the behavior, they can help you solve problems in the long run and develop a higher level of creativity.
